Overview
Rio Vaca Vineyards

Vaca is named for the Vaca Mountains along the eastern edge of the Napa Valley. Our Rio Vaca estate vineyard is separated from the famed vineyards of Stag’s Leap, Oakville and Howell Mountain only by the craggy Vaca Mountains. The ancient volcanic and alluvial soils of the Vacas benefit the Rio Vaca vineyard as they do Napa Valley just 10-miles to the west.

Small Lot Reserve Winemaking
The small amount of fruit selected for the Vaca label, from amongst the over 240 vineyard blocks at the Rio Vaca Vineyards, receives artisan care. Vaca Chardonnay is small barrel fermented, hand-stirred, and sur lie aged in 100% French oak. Vaca Cabernet Sauvignon is fermented separately in small lots, to preserve the quality of each vineyard site and then aged 14 months in small oak barrels. Estate-grown Syrah is blended into the final wine to impart ripe, brambly fruit character and spice

Key Selling Points
  • Estate-vineyard focused wines just 20 miles from Oakville and Stags Leap on the eastern side of the Vaca Mountains but just $15 instead of $50.
  • “Small Lot Reserve” luxury-tier quality, given estate vineyard location and winemaking that includes whole cluster pressing, 100% French oak aging sur lie (Chardonnay), and 14-months small barrel aging on Cabernet Sauvignon. No one does this at this price!
  • It’s no secret that consumers aged 25-40 are driving the majority of the growth in demand for wine. Vaca’s “New Luxury” package is elegant yet uniquely contemporary and speaks directly to these young and modern consumers in a way that other brands do not.
  • Vaca’s signature “Modern-styled” wines are uniquely styled to meet the needs of this younger and modern consumer: fruit driven but not simple. They are densely flavored and complex yet the fruit shines. The Chardonnay includes a small blend of estate early harvested Viognier to impart tropical fruit notes and crisp acidity. The Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with estate Syrah to enhance jammy and spicy fruit character.
  • Vaca brand name reflects on the “discovery” aspect: along the Vaca Mountains and east of Napa, the back label shares our story.
